The Victoria Public Hall, which is also called as 'Town Hall', is one of the important heritage buildings of Chennai city which belongs to British period. The Victoria Public Hall was constructed in 1887 to commemorate the golden jubilee of the British Empress Queen Victoria. In the year 1882, the Town hall was decided to be constructed. The foundation stone was laid by the King of Vijayanagar named Aanandha Ghajapati Rao. The building has some terracotta works and some Islamic Calligraphy. The popular fountain named Trevelyan Fountain is present in the Hall of the Victorian Public Hall. It served as a theater and public assembly room in the late 19th century and early 20th century.
