Constructed between 1938 and 1940, it is named after William Dare, one of the partners of Parry & Co. from 1819 to 1838.   The surrounding neighbourhood of Georgetown is more popularly known as Parry's Corner after EID Parry, the flagship company of the Murugappa Group. YMCA building - Esplanade Road

YMCA building in the Parrys   - Esplanade Rd, Madras. It is one of the oldest heritages of the city. It was built in Jaina-Jaipuri style and was the first building in Madras to be erected at the request of Governor Arthur Have-lock. It was opened in 1900 and was designed by G.S.T. Harding. The work of the building started in 1895.

Triumphant Labour Statue - Marina Beach

On 25th January 1959, the statue of “Triumph of Labour”  made by  the Sculptor Mr.Devi Prasad Roy Chowdri was declared open by Honble.Governor of Tamilnadu Shri.Bishnuram Medhi in the presence of Mr.K.Kamarajar, the Honble.Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. The Triumph Labour Statue depicts an inspiring posture of a team of labourers engrossed at an difficult work. The monument is symbolic of the human spirit that triumphs over adversities with united labour. The ‘Labour Statue was the first statue erected in Marina Beach. This is a labor statue, dedicated to the various laborers who work hard to build every nation.
