The foundation stone of Chennai Victoria Memorial was laid by His Royal Highness George Frederick and Ernest Albert Prince of Wales on January 24th in the year 1906.

On 23rd March 1909, a stone was laid to commemorate the opening of Victoria Memorial by H.E. the Hon. Sir. Arthur Lawley, the governor of Fort St George.

The building of Chennai Victoria Memorial was built in typical Mughal style and is faced with pink sandstone.

The gateways of the Victoria Memorial hall at Chennai resemble Akbar's palace of Fatehpur Sikri. The floor of the building hall is made of marble and the ceiling is festooned with relief ornaments.

The compound of the museum is decorated with canons that were captured by the British army.

Pictures that i took in the year 2011 are below.
