Constructed between 1938 and 1940, it is named after William Dare, one of the partners of Parry & Co. from 1819 to 1838.   The surrounding neighbourhood of Georgetown is more popularly known as Parry's Corner after EID Parry, the flagship company of the Murugappa Group. Triumphant Labour Statue - Marina Beach

On 25th January 1959, the statue of “Triumph of Labour”  made by  the Sculptor Mr.Devi Prasad Roy Chowdri was declared open by Honble.Governor of Tamilnadu Shri.Bishnuram Medhi in the presence of Mr.K.Kamarajar, the Honble.Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. The Triumph Labour Statue depicts an inspiring posture of a team of labourers engrossed at an difficult work. The monument is symbolic of the human spirit that triumphs over adversities with united labour. The ‘Labour Statue was the first statue erected in Marina Beach. This is a labor statue, dedicated to the various laborers who work hard to build every nation.

The Victoria Public Hall, which is also called as 'Town Hall', is one of the important heritage buildings of Chennai city which belongs to British period. The Victoria Public Hall was constructed in 1887 to commemorate the golden jubilee of the British Empress Queen Victoria. In the year 1882, the Town hall was decided to be constructed. The foundation stone was laid by the King of Vijayanagar named Aanandha Ghajapati Rao. The building has some terracotta works and some Islamic Calligraphy.
